Step 1 – Confirm Your License Type and Renewal Requirements
Before you renew, confirm whether you hold a Residential Basic, Residential Light Commercial, or Commercial General Contractor license. In Georgia, Residential Basic licensees must complete 3 hours of continuing education per year, Residential Light Commercial licensees must complete 6 hours of continuing education per year, and Commercial General Contractors are not currently required to complete continuing education for renewal.
Step 2 – Complete Your CE Online if You Are a Residential Contractor
If you are renewing a Residential Basic or Residential Light Commercial license, complete your required continuing education before renewal. If you are a Commercial General Contractor, you can skip this step because Georgia does not currently require CE for that license type.
Step 3 – Download and Save Your Certificate
After completing your course, download your certificate of completion and keep it with your records. Georgia’s residential contractor rules require licensees to maintain official documentation of completed CE, and those records must be kept for at least two years following the end of the biennium and furnished to the Board upon request or random audit.
Step 4 – Report Your CE in CE Broker if CE Applies to Your License
As of January 1, 2026, Georgia licensees who are required to complete continuing education for renewal must register and report their CE into CE Broker and record all CE taken in their CE Broker account. This step applies to Georgia licensees with a CE requirement, such as residential contractors, but it does not create a CE requirement for Commercial General Contractors where none currently exists.
Step 5 – Submit Your Renewal Application Through GOALS
Georgia renewals for both Residential Contractors and Commercial General Contractors are completed online through GOALS and must be completed by June 30 of even-numbered years. A late renewal period is available from July 1 through July 31.
Important Note: Residential contractors must attest that their CE requirements have been met, maintain records of attendance and completion, and submit those records if requested by the Board. Commercial General Contractors should still renew on time through GOALS, but Georgia’s FAQ currently states that they are not required to complete continuing education for renewal.
