Only $29 | Instant Certificate | 100% Online & Self-Paced | No Tests ✅
This 3-hour online course is designed for Georgia Residential Contractors who need part of their continuing education for license renewal in a flexible, self-paced format.
Georgia allows only 50% of the required continuing education hours to be completed through self-paced online coursework. That means this course can be used toward the online portion of the requirement, but most licensees will still need additional live instruction or live webinar hours to complete the full renewal requirement.
This course is a strong fit for Residential Basic Contractors who need the 3-hour online portion of their 6-hour renewal-cycle requirement. It can also be used by Residential Light Commercial Contractors as Part 1 of their allowed 6 self-paced online hours.
With 10+ years serving construction pros nationwide, 1st Choice Continuing Education is trusted by thousands.
This course is best for:
✅ Georgia Residential Basic Contractors who need the 3-hour online portion of their CE requirement
✅ Georgia Residential Light Commercial Contractors who want to complete Part 1 of their online CE hours
✅ Contractors who prefer a flexible, self-paced online course
✅ Licensees who understand that Georgia requires the remaining hours to be completed live or by live webinar
Typical CE totals: Many Georgia Residential Basic and Residential-Light Commercial contractors complete 6 hours of CE each renewal cycle (biennial).
Renewal timing: Licenses renew every two years. Check your Georgia licensing portal for your exact expiration date and the CE totals tied to your classification.
Format: 100% online, self-paced, and no tests.
Records: You’ll receive an instant certificate at completion. Keep it—along with your renewal receipt—for audit readiness.
Need more hours? Pair this Part 1 (3 Hrs) with Part 2 (3 Hrs) or choose the 6-Hour version below to finish in one sitting.
Step 1 – Confirm Your License Type and Renewal Requirements
Before you renew, confirm whether you hold a Residential Basic, Residential Light Commercial, or Commercial General Contractor license. In Georgia, Residential Basic licensees must complete 3 hours of continuing education per year, Residential Light Commercial licensees must complete 6 hours of continuing education per year, and Commercial General Contractors are not currently required to complete continuing education for renewal.
Step 2 – Complete Your CE Online if You Are a Residential Contractor
If you are renewing a Residential Basic or Residential Light Commercial license, complete your required continuing education before renewal. If you are a Commercial General Contractor, you can skip this step because Georgia does not currently require CE for that license type.
Step 3 – Download and Save Your Certificate
After completing your course, download your certificate of completion and keep it with your records. Georgia’s residential contractor rules require licensees to maintain official documentation of completed CE, and those records must be kept for at least two years following the end of the biennium and furnished to the Board upon request or random audit.
Step 4 – Report Your CE in CE Broker if CE Applies to Your License
As of January 1, 2026, Georgia licensees who are required to complete continuing education for renewal must register and report their CE into CE Broker and record all CE taken in their CE Broker account. This step applies to Georgia licensees with a CE requirement, such as residential contractors, but it does not create a CE requirement for Commercial General Contractors where none currently exists.
Step 5 – Submit Your Renewal Application Through GOALS
Georgia renewals for both Residential Contractors and Commercial General Contractors are completed online through GOALS and must be completed by June 30 of even-numbered years. A late renewal period is available from July 1 through July 31.
Important Note: Residential contractors must attest that their CE requirements have been met, maintain records of attendance and completion, and submit those records if requested by the Board. Commercial General Contractors should still renew on time through GOALS, but Georgia’s FAQ currently states that they are not required to complete continuing education for renewal.
Georgia residential contractor continuing education depends on your license type:
✅ Residential Basic Individual Contractor
Residential Basic contractors need 3 hours per year, or 6 total hours per 2-year renewal cycle. Georgia allows a maximum of 3 hours to be completed through self-paced online coursework. The remaining 3 hours must be completed live or by live webinar.
✅ Residential Light Commercial Individual Contractor
Residential Light Commercial contractors need 6 hours per year, or 12 total hours per 2-year renewal cycle. Georgia allows a maximum of 6 hours to be completed through self-paced online coursework. The remaining 6 hours must be completed live or by live webinar.
✅ Commercial General Contractor / Limited Tier
Commercial General Contractors and Limited Tier contractors generally do not have a continuing education requirement.
This is a self-paced online course. Georgia allows self-paced online coursework to count for up to 50% of the total CE hours required for Residential Basic and Residential Light Commercial contractor renewal.
If you are a Residential Basic Contractor, this 3-hour course may satisfy the self-paced online portion of your 6-hour renewal-cycle requirement. You will still need 3 live hours to complete the full requirement.
If you are a Residential Light Commercial Contractor, this course may count as 3 of your allowed 6 self-paced online hours. You may also take Part 2 to complete the full 6-hour online portion, but you will still need 6 live hours to complete the full 12-hour requirement.

Can I complete all of my Georgia Residential Basic CE online?
No. Georgia allows only 50% of the required continuing education hours to be completed through self-paced online coursework. Residential Basic contractors need 6 total hours per renewal cycle, so only 3 hours may be completed online. The other 3 hours must be live or live webinar.
Does this 3-hour course satisfy the full Residential Basic renewal requirement?
No. This course is intended to satisfy the 3-hour self-paced online portion. Residential Basic contractors still need 3 live hours to complete the full 6-hour renewal-cycle requirement.
Can I take both Part 1 and Part 2 if I am a Residential Basic Contractor?
You may take both for education, but Georgia only allows Residential Basic contractors to count up to 3 self-paced online hours toward the required 6-hour renewal-cycle requirement. For renewal purposes, Residential Basic contractors should generally use only one 3-hour self-paced online course per renewal cycle.
Can Residential Light Commercial Contractors take both Part 1 and Part 2?
Yes. Residential Light Commercial contractors need 12 total hours per renewal cycle and may complete up to 6 hours through self-paced online coursework. Part 1 and Part 2 together can help complete the 6-hour online portion. The remaining 6 hours must be live or live webinar.
Do Commercial General Contractors need this course?
Commercial General Contractors and Limited Tier contractors generally do not have a continuing education requirement. This course is mainly for Georgia Residential Basic and Residential Light Commercial contractors.
