12-Hour Life and Health Insurance CE Package - Utah
β Approved by the Utah Insurance Department | Provider #208209 | Includes 3 Approved Courses | 12 Self-Study Hours | Only $49.99 | Instant Emailed Certificate | 100% Online & Self-Paced
Take the maximum 12 self-study hours Utah allows a resident producer, on the life and health side, in one approved online package for $49.99. All three courses are approved by the Utah Insurance Department under provider #208209, and the package includes the 3 ethics hours Utah requires every renewal period.
Every course is 100% online and self-paced. Log in and out as often as you like without losing your place, and your certificate is emailed as soon as you finish each one. 1st Choice CE reports your completions to Utah. Read the next section before you buy β this package is half of a Utah renewal by design, not all of it. Questions? Call or text 1-800-698-2770.
β Read This First β Utah Caps Self-Study at 12 Hours
Utah is unusual: of the 24 hours a resident producer owes, only 12 may be self-study. The other 12 have to be classroom or classroom-equivalent. This package is built to that self-study half β exactly 12 hours, including the 3 ethics hours Utah requires β and it is deliberately not sold as a full renewal, because no self-study package can be one in Utah.
Every 1st Choice CE Utah course is registered with the Utah Insurance Department as self-study. That is why this package stops at 12 hours instead of 24. The remaining 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours have to come from a provider offering that format, and we will tell you that plainly rather than sell you hours that will not finish your renewal. Utah also caps insurer-provided courses at 12 of the 24, which is a separate limit from the self-study one.

β What Is Included
All three courses are included in the package price and are separately approved by the Utah Insurance Department, listed here with their own state course numbers.
- 3 hours β 3 Hour Ethics for Insurance Agents - Utah β $19.99 (Course #46172)
- 5 hours β 5 HRs Life Insurance Products and Retirement Planning - Utah β $19.99 (Course #46993)
- 4 hours β 4 HRs Health Insurance and Affordable Care Act Updates - Utah β $19.99 (Course #46995)
Total: 12 credit hours β 3 hours ethics and 9 hours of life and health content. Bought separately these three courses would cost $59.97, so the package saves $9.98.
β Who Should Take This Package?
- Utah resident producers holding life, accident and health lines of authority
- Life and health producers who want their self-study allowance spent on life and health content rather than property and casualty
- Producers who already have classroom or classroom-equivalent hours lined up and need the self-study half
- Agents who want the 3-hour ethics requirement covered inside the self-study half
- Producers who prefer to finish the online portion early and leave the classroom hours for later in the period
- Anyone comparing Utah CE options who wants a provider that states the self-study cap up front
β Does This Package Satisfy the State Requirement?
This package is designed to provide the full 12 hours of self-study credit Utah permits, and to cover the ethics requirement inside that total.
- The 3 Hour Ethics for Insurance Agents course is designed to satisfy Utah's 3-hour ethics requirement.
- The remaining 9 hours come from two approved life and health courses that count toward the 21 hours Utah allows in any line of insurance.
- Together they total exactly 12 hours β the full self-study allowance, with nothing wasted above the cap.
What this package does not do is complete a Utah renewal. Utah requires 24 hours, and at least 12 of them must be classroom or classroom-equivalent. After this package you will still owe 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours from a provider that offers that format. We would rather say so here than have you discover it at renewal.
β Utah Continuing Education Requirements
Utah continuing education for resident producers and adjusters, other than title producers, is set by the Utah Insurance Department. The total is 24 hours, but the format limits are what catch people out.
- Total continuing education: 24 hours, all from courses approved by the Utah Insurance Department
- Ethics: 3 hours; the remaining 21 may be in any line of insurance
- Classroom minimum: 12 of the 24 hours must be classroom or classroom-equivalent
- Self-study maximum: Only 12 hours may be self-study
- Insurer-provided courses: No more than 12 of the 24 may come from courses provided by insurers β a separate limit from the self-study cap
- Deadline: All required continuing education must be completed before the license is renewed
- Records: Keep proof of completion on file; the Department conducts random mail audits
- Title producers: A different requirement entirely β 12 hours with 6 classroom, or 6 hours at 20+ consecutive years licensed
Utah also recognizes a number of designations as meeting the continuing education requirement outright: CLU, ChFC and RHU with PACE completion; CPCU with CPD completion; and CFP, REBC, CIC, ACSR, CRM, SOFE or IRES with their own continuing education completed. Producers first licensed before December 31, 1988 may also be exempt, and nonresident producers who meet their home state's requirement do not complete additional Utah hours. If any of those apply to you, you may not need this package at all β attach proof of good standing when you pay the renewal fee and contact the Department. Exemptions are also available where a license lapsed because of military service, voluntary service or a long-term medical disability.
How this package helps: This package provides 12 of the 24 credit hours Utah requires, including the 3-hour ethics requirement, and it uses the entire self-study allowance. It does not complete the renewal: 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours remain, and those cannot be satisfied by any self-study course, ours or anyone else's.
β When Do Licensees Renew?
Utah renewals are electronic only. The Department has mandated electronic renewal applications and no longer accepts paper. Renewal is submitted through Sircon or NIPR, and the window is open around the clock until 10 p.m. Mountain time on the date your license expires.
You will get an email from the Department roughly two months before your expiration date. That message is a reminder, not the renewal application itself β you still have to go and file. Check the expiration date on your own license record rather than waiting for it.
All required continuing education has to be completed and posted by the provider before the renewal is processed, so finishing a course on the last afternoon is cutting it too fine. If a license does lapse, it can be reinstated within one year of expiration and keeps its original expiration date; after a year you have to apply as a new applicant.
β How to Renew Your Utah Producer License
- Step 1: Check whether you are exempt first
Utah treats several designations as meeting the CE requirement outright, and producers first licensed before December 31, 1988 may be exempt. Nonresidents who meet their home state's requirement do not complete Utah hours. It is worth two minutes before you buy anything. - Step 2: Confirm your expiration date and the hours on your record
Look up your license type, lines of authority, status and expiration date, and the continuing education already posted. - Step 3: Plan the 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours
This is the step that strands Utah producers. At least half the requirement cannot be self-study, so line those hours up with a provider offering that format. - Step 4: Complete your 12 self-study hours, including the 3 ethics hours
That is what this package covers. - Step 5: Allow time for the provider to post your completions
Utah will not process the renewal until the required continuing education is completed and posted. 1st Choice CE reports your completions, but the posting is not instantaneous. - Step 6: Renew electronically through Sircon or NIPR
Paper renewals are no longer accepted. The window stays open until 10 p.m. Mountain time on your expiration date. - Step 7: Pay the renewal fee and keep your records
Fees are set in the Department's published fee schedule. Keep your certificates of completion β the Department runs random mail audits. - Step 8: Confirm the renewed license
Check that your license shows an active status with the new expiration date before you treat the renewal as finished.

β Frequently Asked Questions
Is this package approved by the Utah Insurance Department?
Yes. All three courses are separately approved Utah continuing education courses under provider #208209.
How many continuing education hours does Utah require?
24 hours for resident producers and adjusters other than title producers, including 3 hours of ethics. The remaining 21 may be in any line of insurance.
Does this package complete my Utah renewal?
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. Utah requires that at least 12 of the 24 hours be classroom or classroom-equivalent. This package is the 12 self-study hours. You will still owe 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours.
Why can't you just sell me all 24 hours?
Because every 1st Choice CE Utah course is registered as self-study, and Utah caps self-study at 12 hours. A 24-hour self-study package would not be compliant in Utah no matter who sold it to you.
What counts as classroom equivalent?
Utah distinguishes classroom and classroom-equivalent instruction from self-study, which it describes as material given to the student to read followed by an exam. Confirm the format of any course with the provider before you buy it, and check how it is registered with the Department.
Does the package include the required ethics hours?
Yes. The 3 Hour Ethics for Insurance Agents course is designed to satisfy Utah's 3-hour ethics requirement.
Why life and health rather than property and casualty?
Because your self-study allowance is limited to 12 hours, so what you spend it on matters. If you hold property and casualty lines instead, our other Utah 12-hour package carries that content.
I hold a CLU, ChFC, CPCU or CFP. Do I need this?
Possibly not. Utah treats several designations as meeting the continuing education requirement outright β CLU, ChFC and RHU with PACE; CPCU with CPD; and CFP, REBC, CIC, ACSR, CRM, SOFE or IRES with their own CE completed. Attach proof of good standing when you pay your renewal fee and contact the Department.
I am a nonresident producer. Do I need Utah hours?
No. A nonresident producer who meets their home state's continuing education requirement does not complete additional Utah hours.
Is the package online and self-paced?
Yes. Every course is 100% online and self-paced, with no scheduled sessions.
Can I log out and come back later?
Yes. You can log in and out as often as you like and your progress is saved.
When do I get my certificate?
Your certificate is emailed to you immediately when you complete each course.
Who reports my completion to Utah?
1st Choice CE reports your completions. Utah will not process a renewal until the required continuing education is completed and posted by the provider, so do not leave it to the last day. Keep your certificates β the Department runs random mail audits.
What happens if my license expires?
It can be reinstated within one year of expiration, and the reinstated license keeps its original expiration date. After one year you have to apply as a new applicant.
Is there a money-back guarantee?
Yes. If the package is not what you needed, contact us by phone or text at 1-800-698-2770.
