- Licensed property and casualty agents and producers
- Agents advising small businesses on cyber exposure

- Producers who field questions about telematics and usage-based rating
- Agents who want a current view of catastrophe and availability trends
- Agents who need property and casualty credit toward Pennsylvania's renewal total
✅ Does This Course Satisfy the State Requirement?
This course provides 3 approved hours toward the 24 credit hours a Pennsylvania resident producer must complete in each two-year licence period. It does not satisfy the requirement on its own, and it is general credit – it does not count toward the 3 hours of ethics that Pennsylvania also requires.
Pennsylvania places no cap on self-study or online hours, so all 3 hours count in full. After this course you will need the balance of your 24 hours, including the 3-hour ethics requirement, from separately approved courses.
✅ Pennsylvania Continuing Education Requirements
Pennsylvania requires 24 credit hours of approved continuing education in each two-year licence term, and since 29 April 2025 at least 3 of those hours must cover ethics. Producers licensed before that date had until 29 April 2026, or the end of their current licence period if later, to bring the ethics hours in. The ethics hours count inside the 24 rather than on top of them.
- 24 credit hours of approved continuing education in each two-year licence term
- At least 3 of the 24 must be ethics
- Property & Casualty licensees must also complete at least 2 hours on flood insurance
- Licences renew every two years on the producer's birthday
- Up to 24 hours may be carried over into the next licence term
- The same course cannot be repeated for credit inside one two-year period
Two product gates sit outside the general requirement. Producers selling long-term care must complete an initial 8-hour training course and a 4-hour refresher each period after that. Producers licensed after 20 June 2022 who sell annuities must complete a 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course. Nonresident producers are exempt from Pennsylvania's continuing education requirement entirely, as are licensees holding only limited lines or surplus lines authority. Failing to complete the minimum results in the voluntary termination of the licence.
How this course helps: This 3-hour course contributes 3 of the 24 credit hours required in each two-year licence period. It is general credit, so it does not count toward the 3-hour ethics requirement. The balance of your 24 hours must be completed separately.
✅ When Do Licensees Renew?
Pennsylvania producer licences run on a two-year term and renew on the producer's birthday. Continuing education must be complete before you renew – the Department will not process a renewal for a licensee who has not met the requirement, and failing to complete it results in the voluntary termination of the licence. Confirm your own expiration date on your licence record rather than assuming a calendar deadline.
✅ How to Renew Your Pennsylvania License
- Confirm your licence expiration date and your lines of authority. Pennsylvania renews on your birthday, every second year.
- Work out what you still owe: 24 hours in total, at least 3 of them ethics, plus at least 2 hours of flood if you hold Property & Casualty authority.
- Check whether a product gate applies – the 8-hour initial and 4-hour ongoing long-term care training, or the 4-hour Annuity Best Interest course if you were licensed after 20 June 2022 and sell annuities.
- Complete your hours from courses individually approved in Pennsylvania. Each course requires progressive completion by topic, study quizzes passed at 70 percent, and a certificate exam passed at 70 percent.
- Allow reporting time. Certificates process within two business days and are reported to the state in the same window, but do not leave it to the final days.
- Check your transcript through Sircon and confirm the ethics and flood hours posted in the right categories rather than as general credit.
- Renew your licence and confirm it shows active with an updated expiration date.
Pennsylvania allows up to 24 hours of carryover into the next licence term, so finishing early is not wasted the way it is in a no-carryover state. A course still cannot be repeated for credit inside the same two-year period.
✅ What You Will Learn
- Identify the cyber exposures a standard property and casualty form was never written to insure
- Explain what a cyber policy actually pays for, first-party and third-party
- Spot the coverage gap created the moment a client turns on a rideshare or delivery app
- Describe how telematics and usage-based rating change what a client is charged
- Discuss AI-assisted underwriting and rating with a client honestly
- Explain catastrophe and availability trends without alarming or misleading a client
✅ Course Content Overview
Hour 1 – Cyber Liability Insurance Essentials for Modern Businesses
Cyber exposures traditional property and casualty forms were never written to insure, and what a cyber policy actually pays. Covers the core first-party and third-party coverage parts, the policy mechanics that decide whether a claim is paid — retentions, waiting periods, sublimits and the difference between a claims-made and an occurrence trigger — and the underwriting questions and security controls that now determine whether a risk is quotable at all.
Hour 2 – Rideshare and On-Demand Delivery Coverage Gaps and Solutions
The on-demand economy exposure and why it does not fit the personal auto policy. Works through the limitations of the personal auto form and the exact points at which coverage lapses between logging on, accepting a ride and completing a delivery, then reviews the solutions available — platform-provided coverage, rideshare endorsements and commercial auto — applied to scenario-based examples an agent will recognize from a real client conversation.
Hour 3 – InsurTech Trends and Climate-Related Specialty Market Impacts
How telematics, AI-assisted rating and automated claims handling are reshaping underwriting, and the consumer and compliance considerations that come with them. Covers the catastrophe and climate pressures now driving capacity, deductible structures and pricing in specialty property, and the placement concepts an agent needs when a risk moves toward the surplus lines market.
