Earn 15 of your 30 Texas social work renewal hours, including the 6 ethics hours and 3 distinct population hours required each renewal period, in one online, self-paced course for only $49. Enroll and start right away, then work through 15 timed, 60-minute sections on your own schedule.
Your progress is saved whenever you log out. Finish all 15 sections and your certificate is emailed instantly, listing your hours as Ethics 6, Distinct Population 3, and General 6. Texas tracks CE in CE Broker, and you upload your certificate there yourself; 1st Choice CE does not report hours for you.
Partial renewal credit: Texas does not pre-approve social work CE providers or courses (22 TAC Β§781.501(h)), and 1st Choice CE is not a provider type listed in Β§781.501(e), so these 15 hours count toward the portion (up to half) of your 30-hour renewal requirement that may come from any provider. They do not count toward the at-least-15 hours that must come from a listed provider type, and this course does not satisfy the full 30-hour requirement.

β Does This Course Satisfy the Texas Requirement?
Not by itself. This course provides 15 of the 30 hours Texas social workers need each renewal period, including the full 6-hour ethics and 3-hour distinct population requirements.
Texas does not pre-approve social work CE providers or courses (22 TAC Β§781.501(h)), and 1st Choice CE is not a provider type listed in Β§781.501(e), so these 15 hours count toward the portion (up to half) of your 30-hour renewal requirement that may come from any provider. They do not count toward the at-least-15 hours that must come from a listed provider type, and this course does not satisfy the full 30-hour requirement.
This course also does not include the separate human trafficking prevention training or supervision hours.
β Texas Social Work Continuing Education Requirements
- 30 hours of continuing education each two-year renewal period
- At least 6 hours in ethics
- At least 3 hours in distinct population competency
- Since January 1, 2024, at least half of your hours (15) must come from a provider type listed in the Council's CE rule
- Supervisors need 6 hours in supervision, which count toward the 30-hour total
- A human trafficking prevention course approved by HHSC each renewal
- CE is reported in CE Broker, and starting January 1, 2026, it must be reported before you can renew
- Keep your CE records for 3 years; the Council audits 5% of renewing licensees each month
How this course helps: This course provides 15 of the 30 required hours: 6 ethics, 3 distinct population, and 6 general hours. Because 1st Choice CE is not a listed provider type, these hours fill the portion that may come from any provider. You still need at least 15 hours from a listed provider type, the HHSC human trafficking prevention training, and 6 supervision hours if you are a supervisor.
β When Do Texas Social Workers Renew?
Texas social work licenses renew every two years, by the expiration date on your license. You can renew online once your license is within 60 days of expiration, and the Council sends reminders by mail and email at least 30 days ahead.
If you renew after the expiration date, late renewal fees apply, and a license that is not renewed within 1 year of expiration expires. Finish your CE and report it in CE Broker before you renew.
β How to Renew Your Texas Social Work License
- Check your license record. Look up your license type and expiration date in the Council's online licensing system.
- Finish your 30 hours. Include 6 ethics hours, 3 distinct population hours, at least 15 hours from a listed provider type, and supervision hours if you supervise.
- Complete the human trafficking prevention training. Choose a course from HHSC's list; HHSC offers one for free.
- Report your CE in CE Broker. Activate your free Basic account with your license number, then upload each certificate.
- Renew online. Sign in to the Council's online licensing system, attest to U.S. citizenship or lawful presence with a supporting document, update your training and practice information, and pay the renewal fee.
- Confirm and keep records. Check that your license shows the new expiration date, and keep your certificates for at least 3 years.
