✅ Who Should Take This Course?
- Licensed property and casualty agents and producers
- Personal lines producers who quote and service homeowners policies
- Agents who write in coastal or high-wind territories
- Producers who field roof, wind and hail claim questions
- Agency staff who explain deductibles and loss settlement to clients
- Agents who need Property and Casualty credit toward South Carolina's 24-hour total and the 8-hour per-line minimum
✅ Does This Course Satisfy the State Requirement?
This course provides 4 approved Property and Casualty credit hours toward the 24 hours South Carolina requires each two-year compliance period. It does not satisfy the separate 3-hour ethics requirement, and it does not complete the full 24-hour total on its own.
Because it is approved in the Property and Casualty category, it also counts toward the 8-hour minimum in each line of authority you hold — the rule that most often catches multi-line producers short even when their 24-hour total looks fine.
✅ South Carolina Continuing Education Requirements
South Carolina requires 24 hours of approved continuing education every two years, including a minimum of 3 hours in ethics. The rule that catches producers out is the per-line minimum: if you hold more than one line of authority, at least 8 hours must be completed in each line you maintain — the 24-hour total alone is not enough. A multi-line producer who does not want to meet the 8-hour minimum in a given line may request cancellation of that line, but must still complete the full 24 hours with 3 ethics hours. South Carolina also approves courses in only three buckets: Life and Health, Property and Casualty, and Ethics.
- 24 credit hours of approved continuing education every two years
- Minimum 3 hours in ethics
- Minimum 8 hours in each line of authority you hold, in addition to meeting the 24-hour total
- The deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the last day of your birth month, in the even or odd year matching your birth year
- Courses are approved in three categories only: Life and Health, Property and Casualty, and Ethics
- No repeats: the same course may not be taken again for credit within two years of its original completion date
- Approved sponsors must submit attendance records within 30 days of course completion
How this course helps: This 4-hour course provides 4 approved credit hours in the Property and Casualty category toward the 24 hours South Carolina requires each two-year compliance period, and those 4 hours count toward the 8-hour minimum for your P&C line. It applies as general P&C credit and does not satisfy the separate 3-hour ethics requirement, so 20 further hours — including your 3 ethics hours — must be completed separately.
✅ When Do Licensees Renew?
South Carolina continuing education is due every two years by 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the licensee's month of birth. Which two-year cycle you fall into depends on whether you were born in an even or an odd year. Approved sponsors have up to 30 days after course completion to submit attendance records, and completion certificates are issued within 30 business days of completion or of exam results — so finishing coursework in the last few weeks before your birth month puts your compliance at risk. Plan to be done with a month to spare.
✅ How to Renew Your License
Step 1: Confirm your compliance date and every line you hold
Your deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the last day of your birth month, in the even or odd year matching your birth year. List every line of authority on your license.
Step 2: Check your hours in each line, not just your total
South Carolina requires at least 8 hours in each line you hold. Pull your CE record and check each line separately — this is the most common reason a producer falls short.
Step 3: Confirm your 3 ethics hours are covered
Ethics is one of only three approval categories South Carolina uses, so the course must be approved in the Ethics bucket.
Step 4: Complete the balance of the 24 hours
Fill the remaining hours with approved courses, avoiding any course you completed within the last two years — repeats do not earn credit.
Step 5: Finish at least 30 days early
Sponsors have 30 days to submit attendance records. Build that reporting window into your plan rather than finishing on the deadline.
Step 6: Verify your record before your birth month ends
Confirm every course posted with the correct hours and category, and that each line shows its 8-hour minimum.
Step 7: Renew your license and save your certificates
Complete the renewal and keep your certificates on file in case you are asked to substantiate your hours.
✅ What You Will Learn
- Identify the standard homeowners forms and which risk each one fits
- Explain Coverages A through F and what each is actually there to pay
- Apply residency and occupancy conditions before a coverage dispute arises
- Distinguish named-peril from open-peril coverage in plain language a client understands
- Explain percentage wind, hail and hurricane deductibles and roof payment schedules before a storm
- Recognize when a risk belongs in the surplus lines or residual windstorm market
✅ Course Content Overview
Hour 1: The homeowners policy structure: the standard forms, which risk each fits, and how Coverages A, B, C and D fit together. Dwelling, other structures, personal property and loss of use, with the limits that move automatically off Coverage A.
Hour 2: Coverages E and F, residency and occupancy conditions, insurable interest, vacancy, tenants and secondary residences, and the situations in which the person on the declarations page is not the person living in the home.
Hour 3: Named peril versus open peril, the major exclusions including flood and earth movement, water damage distinctions, and how ordinance or law and other endorsements close the most common gaps.
Hour 4: Deductibles and loss settlement: flat versus percentage deductibles, separate wind, hail and hurricane deductibles, roof payment schedules and cosmetic damage limitations, replacement cost versus actual cash value, and coastal windstorm placement.
