β Who Should Take This Course?
- Licensed property and casualty agents and producers
- Personal lines producers who quote and service auto policies
- Agents who explain uninsured and underinsured motorist options to clients
- Producers who recommend personal umbrella coverage
- Agency staff who handle household driver and vehicle changes
- Agents who need property and casualty credit toward Nebraska's renewal total
β Does This Course Satisfy the State Requirement?
This course provides 4 approved hours toward the Nebraska continuing education total for your license type combination. It does not satisfy the requirement on its own, and it does not satisfy the separate minimum of 3 hours of ethics that every Nebraska licensee must complete.
Nebraska caps the requirement at 24 hours for any license type combination, so the hours from this course reduce whatever total applies to you. Long-term care producers should note that the one-time 8-hour initial training and the 4-hour ongoing training every 24 months are separate requirements.
β Nebraska Continuing Education Requirements
Nebraska producers renew on a two-year cycle. The Department states that twenty-four hours is the maximum number of continuing education hours required for any license type combination, and that every licensee must complete a minimum of 3 hours of ethics in order to renew. Limited lines carry smaller totals.
- Up to 24 hours of continuing education per two-year renewal period, depending on your license type combination
- A minimum of 3 hours of ethics, required of every licensee
- Long-term care producers: a one-time initial training course of no less than 8 hours
- Long-term care producers: an ongoing training course of no less than 4 hours every 24 months thereafter
- Completions are uploaded by the provider; the Department will not accept certificates submitted by licensees
Check your own license record before you buy. Your total depends on the license type combination you actually hold, and the ethics minimum applies no matter which combination that is.
How this course helps: This 4-hour course contributes 4 hours toward the Nebraska continuing education total for your license type combination, which is capped at 24 hours. It is Property & Casualty credit, so it does not satisfy the separate 3-hour ethics minimum, and it is not the long-term care initial or ongoing training. Those hours must be completed separately.
β When Do Licensees Renew?
Nebraska producer licenses run on a two-year cycle. The renewal window opens 90 days before your expiration date, but it opens only after your education requirements have been met. Because the Department makes you eligible 24 hours after your completion is uploaded, and providers are allowed up to 10 days to upload, finishing your continuing education well before the deadline is the difference between renewing comfortably and renewing in a hurry. Check your own license record for your exact expiration date.
β How to Renew Your Nebraska License
- Confirm your license type and expiration date. Sign in to your Nebraska Department of Insurance record and check your license type combination, status, expiration date and the hours already on file.
- Work out what you still owe. Your total depends on your license type combination, and every licensee needs a minimum of 3 hours of ethics.
- Complete your remaining hours, including the ethics minimum, from courses approved in Nebraska.
- Allow time for the upload to post. 1st Choice CE uploads your completion for you. Providers have up to 10 days, and eligibility begins 24 hours after the upload posts.
- Renew through the Department. Once your education is on file, the renewal window opens 90 days before expiration. Complete the renewal and pay the fee shown on your renewal notice.
- Verify the result. Save your receipt and confirm your license record shows an active status with the updated expiration date.
The Department will not accept a completion certificate sent in by a licensee. The upload has to come from the provider, which is why finishing early matters more in Nebraska than in states that let you self-report.
β What You Will Learn
- Apply the personal auto policy definitions that decide who and what is covered
- Explain split and combined single liability limits and the insurer's defense obligation
- Handle permissive use, resident relatives and household driver questions correctly
- Compare uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage and explain why it matters
- Distinguish comprehensive from collision and set client expectations on each
- Show a client what a personal umbrella actually sits above and where it will not respond
β Course Content Overview
Hour 1 β Personal Auto Policy Foundations and Liability Coverage
Personal auto policy structure and the key definitions β covered auto, insured, family member and newly acquired vehicle β that decide who and what is protected. Covers liability coverage and its exclusions, the difference between split limits and a combined single limit, and claim scenario practice that shows how the definitions control the outcome.
Hour 2 β First-Party Auto Coverages: UM/UIM, PIP/MedPay and Physical Damage
Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, including stacking, rejection requirements and how limits interact with the at-fault driver's policy. Covers personal injury protection and medical payments coverage, the difference between comprehensive and collision, and case studies applying all of it to real loss situations.
Hour 3 β Endorsements, Special Exposures and Policy Customization
The endorsements agents use most, and the driver and vehicle exposures that require them β youthful and excluded drivers, business use, trailers, motorcycles, classic and custom vehicles. Covers underwriting and rating considerations, and how to customize a policy so it matches the household as it actually is rather than as it was written.
Hour 4 β Personal Umbrella Liability: How It Works, When It Responds and Compliance
Umbrella policy fundamentals and what an umbrella is and is not. Covers the triggers, required underlying limits, self-insured retention concepts and the common exclusions; the high-severity liability scenarios that make an umbrella essential; and the sales practices and documentation expectations that apply when an umbrella is offered or declined.
