β Does This Course Satisfy the Kansas Requirement?
This course provides 3 contact hours toward the 30 contact hours Kansas RNs and LPNs need in each two-year licensing period. It does not satisfy the full requirement by itself. Kansas does not require specific subjects, so these hours count toward your total when you complete them during your current licensing period.
This course is included in the 30 Hour Kansas RN and LPN Complete Renewal Package, which provides all 30 contact hours for $39.99.
β Kansas RN and LPN Continuing Education Requirements
Kansas registered nurses (RNs) and licensed practical nurses (LPNs) must complete 30 contact hours of approved continuing nursing education (CNE) during each two-year licensing period to renew their license. The Kansas State Board of Nursing accepts CNE from providers approved by other state boards of nursing, such as the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- RNs and LPNs: 30 contact hours of approved CNE in each two-year licensing period
- Required subjects: None for RN or LPN renewal
- Contact hour: 50 minutes of participation; fractions of 30 minutes or more count toward a contact hour (K.A.R. 60-9-105 and 60-9-106)
- Carryover: Hours over 30 do not carry over to the next renewal period
- First renewal: Not required if your license expires within 30 months of your initial licensure exam, or within 9 months after reinstatement or endorsement
- Not accepted: Offerings under 30 minutes, repeated identical offerings in the same period, and in-service, orientation, or on-the-job training
- Audits: Have your certificates ready to submit to the Board if your renewal is selected for audit
How this course helps: This 3-hour course contributes 3 contact hours toward your Kansas total. RNs and LPNs will still need 27 more contact hours during the same licensing period. Because Kansas has no required subjects, these hours apply to your general total.
β When Do Kansas Nurses Renew?
Kansas nursing licenses renew every two years. Your license expires on the last day of your birth month, in odd-numbered years if you were born in an odd-numbered year and in even-numbered years if you were born in an even-numbered year. A newly issued license may have a longer first period, so check the expiration date on your license record.
You can renew online during the renewal window, which opens 90 days before your expiration date. Kansas has no grace period: a license that is not renewed by the expiration date lapses, and you must apply for reinstatement before you practice again.
Complete your 30 contact hours during the licensing period that is ending, before you submit your renewal.
β How to Renew Your Kansas Nursing License

- Answer the CNE questions. Attest that you completed the required continuing nursing education on the renewal application.
