21-Hour Insurance CE Package - Illinois

βœ… Approved by Illinois Department of Insurance | Provider #500032058 | Includes 5 Approved Courses | Only $64.99 | Instant Emailed Certificates | 100% Online & Self-Paced

Twenty-one of the twenty-four continuing education hours an Illinois producer needs, in one approved online package for $64.99. Your 3 ethics hours must come from a classroom or live webinar - Illinois does not accept self-study ethics, so they are not included here and we say so plainly. Every course inside is separately approved by the Illinois Department of Insurance under provider number 500032058, and the package totals exactly 21 hours.

Everything is 100% online and self-paced. Take the courses in any order, log in and out without losing progress, and receive a certificate by email as you finish each one. 1st Choice CE reports your completion to the Director within 10 days of the end of the week in which you finish. Bought separately these courses cost $99.95; the package is $64.99.

βœ… Does This Package Satisfy the State Requirement?

Illinois asks for 24 hours every two years and requires 3 of them to be ethics delivered by classroom or live webinar. A recorded, on-demand ethics course does not satisfy Illinois. That rule is why this package is 21 hours rather than 24: everything Illinois allows to be taken as self-study is here, and the 3 hours Illinois does not allow to be taken as self-study are not. Illinois does not split the requirement by line of authority - 215 ILCS 5/500-35 and 50 Ill. Adm. Code Part 3119 contain no life and health versus property and casualty allocation - so this single 21-hour pool counts against your total whatever lines you hold. Illinois places no per-producer cap on self-study hours, so all 21 count in full.

βœ… Illinois Continuing Education Requirements

Illinois requires an insurance producer to satisfactorily complete at least 24 hours of course study in each two-year cycle under 215 ILCS 5/500-35, and three of those 24 hours must consist of classroom or webinar ethics instruction. That delivery restriction is the part that catches producers out: a recorded, on-demand self-study ethics course does NOT satisfy Illinois, though a live webinar does. The remaining 21 hours carry no delivery restriction. Illinois does not split the requirement by line of authority - neither the statute nor 50 Illinois Administrative Code Part 3119 contains any life and health versus property and casualty allocation, so a single 24-hour pool covers every line held.

  • 24 hours of course study in each two-year cycle
  • 3 of the 24 must be ethics instruction delivered by CLASSROOM OR WEBINAR - self-study ethics does not satisfy Illinois
  • No line-of-authority split - one 24-hour pool covers every line held
  • Up to 12 hours carry over to the following period, but NO ethics credit may be carried over
  • Up to 4 hours per period may come from active participation in a professional insurance association
  • Licences expire the last day of your birth month, biennially

Illinois permits a producer to carry over a maximum of 12 continuing education hours completed during the prior licensing period, but no ethics credit hours may be carried over. There is no per-producer cap on self-study hours. The two-thirds rule that appears in the statute is a course CLASSIFICATION rule - a course given in a combination of classroom, seminar, webinar and self-study is deemed a self-study course unless the classroom, seminar or webinar hours meet or exceed two-thirds of the total - and it does not limit how many self-study hours a producer may take. Courses in excess of 12 hours are not approved for credit, which is a per-course ceiling. Up to four hours per biennial period may be earned through active participation in a state or national professional insurance association, and those hours may not satisfy the ethics requirement. Illinois has no long-tenure, age or professional-designation exemption. The statute permits waiver of renewal procedures on request for military service. Nonresident Illinois licensees satisfy Illinois by meeting their home state's requirement.

How this package helps: This package provides 21 of the 24 hours an Illinois producer must complete every two years. It does NOT complete your renewal on its own: Illinois requires 3 hours of ethics delivered by classroom or live webinar, which cannot be satisfied by any self-study course, including ours. Add those 3 hours from a classroom or webinar provider and you are at 24.

βœ… When Do Licensees Renew?

Illinois producer licences expire biennially on the last day of your birth month. The renewal window opens 90 days before expiration. Since July 1, 2023 all applications must be filed through NIPR.com and all fees paid by electronic funds transfer in the NIPR system.

βœ… How to Meet Your Illinois CE Requirement

  1. Confirm your expiration date - the last day of your birth month, biennially - and note that NIPR opens renewal 90 days prior.
  2. Complete 24 hours including 3 hours of ethics delivered by classroom or webinar. Self-study ethics will not count. Apply any carried-over non-ethics hours from the prior period, up to 12.
  3. Finish the coursework early. The rule directs completion no later than one month before the extension date, and the Department requires you to be compliant at least 10 business days before your renewal date so the provider's report can post.
  4. Verify your hours posted by pulling your own education transcript at State Based Systems - select Illinois, enter your last name and the last four digits of your Social Security number, or search by National Producer Number.
  5. Confirm the Producer Database shows you as education compliant. NIPR will not let you renew electronically until it does.
  6. File the renewal at NIPR.com and pay the $215 biennial fee by electronic funds transfer.
  7. Keep your own records - retain each course record for three years, and retain permanently the original long-term care 8-hour, annuity and flood certificates, since the Department keeps no permanent record of those.

There is no true grace period - the licence is expired the day after the last day of your birth month, and you may not transact insurance while it is expired. Under 215 ILCS 5/500-35 a producer who allows the licence to lapse may, within 12 months after the due date of the renewal fee, be issued a licence without the necessity of passing a written examination, subject to a penalty. Within that window you file a Resident License application rather than a Resident License Renewal through NIPR, pay the licence fee plus the $215 penalty and reinstatement fee, and must be compliant on continuing education. After 12 months reinstatement is no longer available and you must qualify as a new applicant including the examination.

βœ… Frequently Asked Questions

Is this package approved in Illinois?

Every course in the package is separately approved by the Illinois Department of Insurance under provider number 500032058. Course numbers are listed in What Is Included.

How many hours does the package provide?

21 credit hours in total.

Does it complete my whole requirement?

This package provides 21 of the 24 hours an Illinois producer must complete every two years. It does NOT complete your renewal on its own: Illinois requires 3 hours of ethics delivered by classroom or live webinar, which cannot be satisfied by any self-study course, including ours. Add those 3 hours from a classroom or webinar provider and you are at 24.

Does it include the required ethics hours?

No, and that is deliberate. Illinois requires 3 of your 24 hours to be ethics delivered by classroom or live webinar, and a recorded self-study ethics course does not satisfy that rule. You must obtain those 3 hours from a classroom or live webinar provider. Note also that ethics hours can never be carried over from a previous period in Illinois, so they have to be earned fresh every cycle.

Does it include the flood hours?

No. Illinois treats flood training as a federal National Flood Insurance Program obligation rather than a state CE mandate, though resident producers may claim three continuing education hours for it. Our 3-Hour Flood Insurance (NFIP) course is separately approved in Illinois and can be added on its own.

Can I take the courses in any order?

Yes. They are independent and you can work through them in whatever order suits you.

Is everything online?

Yes. All 21 hours are 100% online and self-paced. Illinois sets no limit on online or self-study hours.

Can I log in and out without losing progress?

Yes. Your progress is saved in every course.

When do I get my certificates?

A certificate is emailed to you as soon as you finish each course, so you do not have to wait until the whole package is done.

Do I report the completions myself?

No. 1st Choice CE reports your completion to the Director within 10 days of the end of the week in which you finish.

When is my continuing education due?

On the last day of your birth month, every two years. The renewal window opens 90 days before expiration and renewal is filed through NIPR.

What happens if I miss my compliance date?

There is no true grace period. The licence is expired the day after the last day of your birth month and you may not transact insurance while it is expired. Within 12 months you may be issued a licence without passing the examination by filing a Resident License application through NIPR and paying the licence fee plus the $215 penalty and reinstatement fee. After 12 months you must qualify as a new applicant, examination included.

Do extra hours carry over?

Yes, up to 12 hours from the prior licensing period, but no ethics credit may ever be carried over. The rule's wording implies the carried hours may be used for one subsequent period only.

How much do I save versus buying separately?

The courses total $99.95 purchased individually. The package is $64.99.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes. If the package is not what you expected, contact us and we will make it right.

Who do I call if I need help?

Call or text 1-800-698-2770.
