β Who Should Take This Course?
- Florida resident all-lines adjusters (license 5-20)
- Florida company employee adjusters (license 6-20)
- Nonresident all-lines adjusters licensed in Florida (license 7-20)
- Nonresident designated home state adjusters (license 70-20)
- Independent and staff adjusters handling Florida homeowners and residential property claims
- Catastrophe and field adjusters deployed to Florida after a hurricane or severe weather event
- Claims supervisors and file reviewers who audit Florida residential property files
- Adjusters who still need elective hours and have already completed the required 4-hour update
- Not written for 3-20 public adjusters β public adjuster electives must come from courses approved for that license
β Does This Course Satisfy the State Requirement?
This course provides 4 hours toward the 20 elective hours Florida all-lines adjusters generally complete each compliance period.
It does not satisfy the separate 4-hour Law and Ethics Update for adjusters, which is filed under authority 5-620 and must be completed as its own course.
It does not by itself complete the 24-hour requirement. The remaining elective hours must be completed separately.
Your own total can be lower if you qualify for an hour reduction. Check your CE Status in MyProfile and confirm your exact requirement against your license record.
β Florida Adjuster Continuing Education Requirements
Florida all-lines adjusters complete continuing education on a 24-month compliance period. The standard requirement is 24 total hours, split between one mandatory update course and a block of electives. Reductions based on how long you have been licensed are applied to the elective category only β the 4-hour update course is always required.
| Hours | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 4 hours | Law and Ethics Update for adjusters (authority 5-620) β required every compliance period |
| 20 hours | Elective continuing education, including claims courses filed under CE 3-24C |
| 24 hours | Standard total per compliance period |
- Licensed 6 or more years: the elective requirement is reduced to 16 hours, for a 20-hour total.
- Licensed 25 or more years and holding a CPCU or CLU designation: the elective requirement is reduced to 6 hours, for a 10-hour total.
- Your compliance period runs 24 months and ends on the last day of your birth month, then every two years after that.
- You cannot repeat the same course within two years and receive credit for it again.
- Course providers must report completions to the Department within 21 days. 1st Choice CE reports within 24 hours.
- Nonresident adjusters may qualify for CE reciprocity if they have satisfied the requirement in a reciprocal home state.
- Check your own requirement and remaining hours by logging in to MyProfile and clicking CE Status.
How this course helps: This 4-hour claims course provides 4 of the 20 elective hours required each compliance period for Florida all-lines adjusters (5-20, 6-20, 7-20, and 70-20), under adjuster elective authority CE 3-24C. It does not satisfy the separate 4-hour Law and Ethics Update (5-620), and 16 elective hours remain after this course under the standard 24-hour requirement. It is not approved for 3-20 public adjuster electives.
β When Do Licensees Renew?
Florida adjuster licenses are perpetual β there is no license renewal application. The license stays in force as long as you remain properly appointed and keep your continuing education current.
Continuing education runs on a 24-month compliance period that ends on the last day of your birth month, and then every two years after that. A new licensee gets a full 24 months before the first period closes.
Appointments are renewed every 24 months during the appointee's birth month, and the appointing entity receives and pays the renewal invoice.
Failing to complete continuing education on time may result in cancellation of an appointment, and a license expires if it goes 48 months without an appointment. Completing your hours on schedule is what keeps the license active.
β How to Keep Your Florida Adjuster License Active
- Log in to your MyProfile account on the Department's website and click CE Status. Confirm your license type, your compliance period end date, and the hours you still owe.
- Complete the required 4-hour Law and Ethics Update for adjusters (authority 5-620). It is a separate course and no elective can replace it.
- Complete your elective hours, including this 4-hour claims course, before the last day of your birth month at the close of the compliance period.
- Do not repeat a course you already received credit for within the past two years β Florida will not count it twice.
- Allow reporting time. 1st Choice CE submits your completion within 24 hours; Florida gives providers 21 days, so do not wait until the final week.
- Return to CE Status in MyProfile and confirm the transcript shows every course and that your period is satisfied.
- Confirm with your appointing entity β your employer, your adjusting firm, or yourself if you appoint yourself β that your appointment renewal invoice has been paid.
- Keep your addresses and contact information current in MyProfile, and save a copy of every certificate for your records.
