✅ Alabama Gas Fitter CE Requirements

The Alabama Plumbers & Gas Fitters Examining Board requires annual continuing education for every certified Journeyman and Master Plumber and Gas Fitter (Ala. Admin. Code Rule 720-X-21-.02). The Board amended this rule in 2026, and the biggest change takes effect with the 2027 CE year:

• Annual CE: a minimum of 4 hours every year for all certified Journeyman and Master Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
• Starting January 1, 2027: 4 hours per certification held. A licensee certified in both plumbing and gas fitting needs 4 hours of plumbing CE plus 4 hours of gas fitting CE — 8 hours total. (Through December 31, 2026, the requirement is 4 total hours.)
• CE proof is due to the Board before November 1 each year; renewal season runs October 1 – December 31.
• A single course is awarded a maximum of 4 CE hours, and the same course cannot be repeated for credit within the earning period.
• Extra hours do not carry over to the next year.
• Exemptions: contractors 65 or older (with proof of age on file) and individuals acquiring or renewing their initial certification during the current calendar year.
